Persbericht Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven.
On 19 & 20 April 2018, an international conference will be held on The People’s Art School and Unovis in Vitebsk. A wide range of international speakers will discuss different aspects of this important period just after the Revolution, when Marc Chagall founded a revolutionary art school in his native town and invited distinguished colleagues to join his faculty. Among these was Kazimir Malevich, who, together with El Lissitzky, soon established an artists’ collective known as the ‘Champions of the New Art’ – or Unovis. This radical group injected new energy and creativity into modern Russian art.
The conference will complement the major exhibition CHAGALL, LISSITZKY, MALEVICH. THE RUSSIAN AVANTGARDE IN VITEBSK, 1918-1922 that will be held from 28 March – 16 July 2018 in Paris’s Centre Pompidou. Read more in the press release.
